Why Teachers Would be against Music in Schools?

I am doing research for my music education class and have to have a speech about 2-5 min on how if i was a elementary principal and i was against music being in my school what would be the basis of my argument. Of course i am not against music but my character is against in and need some help.
Anybody any information?
So Can anybody give me reasons why people would be against music being in public schools?

This is a tough argument. I can hardly find a reason at all to defend your argument. I never liked when teachers made us take opposing views. I'm sure it's all for a good reason.

Let me think..

Perhaps you can say that music would restrict students ability to concentrate. Instead of focusing on their work, they would want to sing or play instruments all day. School is about WORK not PLAY! You could also say that students may prefer one type of music over the other and that could cause problems in the classroom.

Now, that's just an idea. Another problem that I really see with music in my rural classroom is that it causes people to get upset. For example, if we listen to a rap song in class and the students hear a racial comment about white students, they start trying to have racial discussions. (I teach high school). So, I have stopped listening to the radio in class. I used to use it as a reward on a Friday and I would alternate station preference. You maybe could use this in your paper.

Good luck! I can't see how music would really harm education. It can be used in so many ways as a learning tool.

Does anyone know of any good music schools in NY MANHATTAN?

I'm moveing to long island as soon as i find a good high school to go to. i'm looking for a good music school in manhattan. I'm a JR. in highschool i've been playing guitar since i was 11. can anyone tell the names of a couple of good tech schools that are in manhattan.

P.S. It would be helpful if it was a tech school that focus mostly on guitar players. please give me the names of the best music schools!

The School for the Performing Arts is located on 100 Amsterdam Avenue near 46th Street in the heart of New York City’s theater district.
Julliard or Laguardia, too.

hello.. hasn't anyone here ever heard of Julliard? it's one of the most famous music schools in America its in New York. There's is also a very good one (or so I heard) in Boston but i forgot the name.

How can we save the music from being eliminated from our schools?

I am writing a paper for my English 102 course on music being cut from schools and how NCLb is playing an effect in all of this. I would love insight and solutions as well as articles that would help aid in my research and writing of this paper. Thank you so much in advance.
This is for a paper. I understand where you all are coming from but I need information to back and support my thesis on the No Child Left Behind law and how it is affecting music in our schools. Thank you to those of you who have answered already but your answers are not what I am looking for.

you can say something to maybe the head of the school, the govener, or the board of education. it would also help to explain why you want to keep music and why it is important. its best to have at least 3 reasons. i think that would help the most.

What is the impact on society due to cutting art or music classes in schools?

Do you think there's a huge impact on young people today because so many art and music classes are being done away with in schools because of money concerns? What kind of impact will it have in the future? Should they be brought back or re-instated and cut budgets elsewhere?

A society rises and falls by its support of the arts. Never did a society in history rise without honoring and supporting the arts. Likewise, never has a society fallen without first letting its interest in art and music wane.

Music schools to learn flute/guitar in bangalore?

i would like to learn guitar/flute in Bangalore, hope someone could help me out in finding a guru/music academy/school where i can learn them.

For Classical Guitar (Bach Cantatas etc .. nylon string) try Bangalore School of Music.(they are in the phone book).

For Steel String Guitar (locally known as "Spanish" guitar though "spanish guitar" actually means nylon strings) try Mr Roberts at the Reynolds Music Store. (come down Brigade road from MG Road and keep going till you hit Richmond Road). It's on the left. Reynolds should be in the phone book as well.

What Are Some Good Schools For Music In North America?

What are some good schools in USA or Canada for music writing/producing?

Depends what type of composing or producing you want to do.

For pop music, you might want to try the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

For classical, big name conservatories such as Eastman, Hartt, Peabody, Boston University, etc. tend to have good composition programs.

For producing, you probably want to go with a degree in music technology. Most schools with larger conservatories/schools of music will have music technology majors. UMASS Lowell has a sound recording major that is fairly unique as I understand it.

Why do we need music in schools?

Some schools in my area have been getting rid of their music programs. As a dedicated former choir kid and marching band fan ( I graduated in '06), I plan on writing letters to my Board of Education and superintendent about why they should not get rid of the music program in our district. I know how the programs have affected me and my friends, but I was also hoping to include statistics and a long list of jobs related to music. Anyone know anything that could help me out?

You all make good pts. and Fine Arts should be offered. But at some level you just have to say (to the kids this statrement applies to), "Until you can READ at a certain proficiency, you'll be in a Reading Classroom while the others a doing thier Do-Re-Mi's.

Where can I find a western classical piano tutor in Bangalore? Are there western music schools?

I want to know so that I can decide to take my piano to India or not. I heard that western classic music is not popular there and I will have a hard time to get a tutor to continue my training and taking my piano would be a waste of time and money. Is that true??
I am specifically looking for western classic music. I must have a definite answer before I move, so please list some sites or numbers that I can call and reconfirm before I shell out a huge sum in having my piano shipped. Also, could I buy a piano easily in India???
