Can I get into these certain colleges with my resume looking like this?

12th January

Hello! I am currently a senior in high school residing in southern California. I have finished my personal statements and essays for my college application, but I would like some feedback about my chances on getting into my dream schools: Vassar, Boston University, Emerson, NYU, and more. I am going to major in Acting/Theatre, and have my strength in that field, which would make me audition for that college of theatre in those universities.

Thank you if you could give me your thoughts!

Here is my unorganized resume:

- 3.97 unweighted GPA
- I still need to take my SAT or ACT
- Playing cello for 10 years; involved in the most rigorous school music classes since elementary school; performed at the Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles with SPLA (String Project Los Angeles)
- Won Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award in JV Tennis; I had to quit tennis because of constant injuries
- Won a national essay contest for students wanting to go to Korea for a cultural tour
- Volunteered at Salvation Army, Skid Row, and worked Friday nights by teaching art to five children at once; work with child with autism.
- Sunday School teacher for five years.
- Tutoring/housing a foreign student from South Korea.
- Won school scholarship for music performance
- Auditioned for a college play but could not participate in production because of school hours and rides.
- Involved in CSF (California Scholarship Federation), Key Club
- I will have taken seven AP courses by the end of this year.
- I will audition and take part in school plays since I started drama this year (I wasn’t allowed to take the class before)
- I was involved in the school paper as an editor
- I went to Stanford University during the summer for Journalism
- I finished Korean a year earlier than usual, and finished AP Calculus AB as a junior.
- I also moved away from my original public school to a small private one, but I moved back to my original public school. The tuition and education at the private one was a bit…

Thanks!

You should be a slam dunk for all of the schools listed.

Guitar Lessons for homeschoolers?

8th January

We are starting a music school and want to reach local homeschoolers' parents (we are in the San Fernando Valley part of Los Angeles), but I can't seem to find a group so I can see about advertising to them. Does anyone have any ideas? (I tried googling) Thanks

Start with the state HS'ing associations, find the list of LA area HS'ing groups, and contact them.

Search Yahoo Groups for HS groups in your area and write the list owner (it's on the group home pages) to ask if they'd pass along your info to anyone interested.

Post notices at the library and bookstores. Librarians typically know a LOT of HS'ers and can put them in their "community information" displays.

See if there are any HS co-ops near you where you could teach. We have two graduate music students teaching general music and guitar at our co-op.

can someone proof read my artists statement for art school?

6th January

hey , im applying to an art school in california , and they want an artists statement about who i am , why i want to go to there school and what inspires me etc is this ok

Personal Statement

Practicing art and design is not just to persue me career or my hobby , its my life. Being a creative person , I naturally am inspired by many things and am sensitive to my surroundings, and I cant imagine living my life without it.
When I started studying It helped me make decisions about where I wanted to go in the creative fields starting in a broad range of subjects like graphic design, painting and 3D work working my way through many fields to narrowing down what I felt inspired me most , I am currently studying illustration at Parsons Paris school of design , through this I have studied : illustration concepts , typography , fashion illustration , painting , drawing and multimedia techniques , I have been shown various animations by students at your school in my illustration concepts class and have been inspired to create something like this myself , I feel that XXX` has that certain style I want to express myself in, its not too traditional and I can see that the students enjoy themselves in their work .
I feel that my work is more successful when I have fun with what I am doing. I want to feel fulfilled with what I produce and keep feeding my creativity and I feel that the school and what it has to offer has the tools to help me do that.
After I graduate I would like to proceed into the masters program at XXX or look for work as an animator within the film industry.
Travelling has always been a passion of mine. I grew up in Glasgow and spent most of my life there studying, I then moved to London when I was 16 to live with my Father and assist in the up-keeping of his shop and Business. When I was 18 I moved to the French countryside and I am now living in Paris. This summer I visited the states for the first time and I was so inspired by the culture and the difference from Europe, France can be so conservative some times in keeping the old ways and frowning upon the young and new ideas although I do realise that make history, you sometimes have to learn from it, although I love it here I feel its time to get out and see the world, your school seems to be the place to be , I like the location of the school too , not too far but not too near Los Angeles , where I can have peace of mind , but if I need something ,this part of America has some great resources.
I also think that teamwork is an essential part of being an animator and I see that faculty and students have a bond with the students and everyone works as a team and brings their talents into the final results, its great being independent but when you have an idea that people can feed off of and create something spectactuar.
Being in multicultural schools all of my live has taught me how to deal with many different kinds of people and attitudes , how to communicate well and what to expect.
my influences include music , children’s books , folklore tales , poetry , nature documentrys , art nouveau, wilderness , abandoned spaces, fashion , paranormal stories , architechture, mystery , travel , Parisian culture, my experiences, videogames , comics, my favorite being Sandman by Neil Gaiman, photography and theatre.

thats all ive done so far , but can anyone give me pointers , ive never had to do this before argh

ask your art teacher.
He or she knows better.
